There is a lot to be said about a 30-year relationship with carrot cake. Cheryl Savastano, owner and confectionary creator behind Savvy Treats, is driven to make life in the DC metro area a little bit sweeter. Cheryl’s career in the kitchen began when she was taught the fine art of baking by her parents and Italian grandmother. She says her baking ability is just a natural part of her DNA. Her grandmother is now 100 years old. Those are some promising genes.
What started as a killer carrot cake recipe developed into a delivery service of cakes, cupcakes, mini-cupcakes and all things delightful. The convenience of having Savvy Treats delivered for everything from corporate events to weddings to “OMG-you-had-a-baby-have-a-cupcake!” hospital visits make your world not only sweeter, but easier. And who doesn’t love sweet and easy? Customer favorites include Cheryl’s celebrated carrot cake, chocolate and salted caramel.
I loved the balance of sweet and salty caramel and that’s probably because I’m a girl whose taste buds can never decide what flavor they enjoy more.
You won’t find Savvy Treats in stores but they deliver throughout Maryland, Virginia and DC. And of course, you can order online. Try the mini-cupcakes for a small indulgence that won’t make you feel guilty if you happen to inhale two or three…or five. Plus, they’re super cute.

Lauren is a travel guru with a ceaseless case of wanderlust. She’s traveled around the world quite a few times where she’s dined on everything from alligator to zebra. Now that she has settled in the District, she’s always on a quest for the next culinary marvel (fried chicken and donuts, anyone?). She enjoys all things that include carbs, cheese and sauce and never says no to a good beer. If she’s not working in the travel industry by day or going to grad school by night you might spy her at a food truck or roasting a leg of lamb in her kitchen.
