After spending some time with Cori Sue Morris of the ubiquitous Bitches Who Brunch last week, I felt inspired to, well, brunch. So I headed to one of my usual spots, Chef Jeffrey Buben’s Woodward Table. Instead of giving my Uber driver the cross streets of where I am headed, I always just say “Old Ebbitt Grill,” stare at the number of people there when I arrive, and then ask the driver to go one more block north to Woodward Table.

I like this place and am always surprised it is so empty during Saturday and Sunday brunch. Yes, the area is still more of a Monday-Friday place during the day, but if the crowds can make it to Ebbitt, what’s one more block?

Woodward has the best (and undiscovered) unlimited mimosas deal. I might be revealing a secret/tipping off the owner here, but the bartenders are never stingy on the pour. This isn’t an unlimited mimosa deal that’s all orange juice and pulp with a splash of champagne…in fact, I can barely see an orange color in my glass. #Winning. Charge me $15 for unlimited mimosas, give me three, and I, with a liver of steel, am satisfied. I do wonder how many people go unlimited and end up getting only two.

The biscuit with jam used to be my favorite app, but lately it has been so soaked in butter that the jam can’t fight the salty taste. If you get a good one, be sure to ask for extra jam; it’s one big biscuit. The duck eggs Benedict is the dish that I come back for. Duck confit, leek, and chipotle hollandaise on an English muffin– hello. The eggs are always poached perfectly, and I get to admire the runny yolk on my plate. I could eat this every day. Eggs. Yes, please, and can I get another order?

The fast 5

Oysters: YES
Steak & eggs: Yes
Anson Mills grits: Yes
Brussels sprouts: No
Service: Always friendly, though you might have to ask for your water glass to be refilled if you’re a camel like me.
