I love beer. Enough to bike to Port City Brewing Company on a beautiful afternoon. Port City is about 12 miles from DC, after a sweaty ride, I’m ready for some beer! I need those calories back. When I first walked in, I got so excited because their tasting room has so much personality and just gets you so excited to try their 12 beers on draft.

Unlike DC breweries, Virginia allows more than four samples, and you can even purchase pints if you just want to hang and relax with your favorite beer. My husband and I each got a flight of 6 beers, so we got to try them all for $20. Good deal right?!

They were generous samples of around 4-oz pours each. They gave them to you one at a time, which I like because your beer does not get warm and flat! I have had several of f their beers before. The Optimal Wit, Port City Porter, Monument IPA and Essential Pale Ale are frequently featured on tap in DC and Virginia Bars and Restaurants. Several new ones for me included the Revival (oyster stout), Ways and Means (Rye IPA), and my favorite the Colossal One.

The Colossal one is absolutely delicious. It is a Belgian Imperial Stout and have flavors of Espresso and Dark Swiss Chocolate. Be careful though, it is a strong one at 9.2% ABV. Since I loved it so much, I had to get a growler of it to go!
