We’re always looking for new things to do in the city. The concept of Bookalokal is simple: find a unique food event hosted by different people around the city, sign up and enjoy meeting new people and sharing a meal or other foodie experiences. You can even host your own event! The events can range from a brunch, a themed dinner or a cooking class. The events allow you to meet new people and try new things. Bookalokal is currently expanding in Washington, DC after being successful in European cities like Brussels. And, they hope to expand to more U.S. cities over the next few months. It’s really easy to get started. Go to their website, find an event that you want to attend and sign up! Reserve your spot and pay a small fee based on the class or menu. On the day of the event, go to the location and prepare yourself for good food and good conversation.
We attended the “Making Your Own Mimosa” brunch hosted by Evelyne and co-host Stephen. The menu included a breakfast casserole, quiche, fresh bread, salad and pound cake with fruit and yogurt. And, of course, there were bottomless mimosas. All of the dishes were delicious and homemade. However, the company was even better. We shared a meal and great conversation with people we probably never would’ve met otherwise.
Some of the other guests at the brunch had been to other events and enjoyed them enough to try another one. Evelyne will be hosting her next brunch on Saturday, April 19. The theme is Mexican with breakfast margaritas.
