If you find yourself on I-95 near Richmond with a hankering for barbecue, or if you’re like us and just like to stuff your face with road food, hop off the freeway and head to Buz and Ned’s for fantastic finger-lickin’.

A fixture in Richmond since 1992, pit master Buz Grossberg has worked in top barbecue destinations from Dallas to Memphis. He met Ned along the way, who passed on secret 150-year-old family recipes on the condition that Grossberg continue Ned’s family barbecue traditions. Over 20 years later, he’s still making good on that promise. You may also remember seeing Grossberg’s spare rib victory over my boyfriend Bobby on Throwndown! with Bobby Flay.

From the second you arrive in the parking lot, you can smell the glorious journey your taste buds are about to embark on. It might even make you weak in the knees. There’s a lot to ponder on the menu but remember–you come here for the meat.  Plan on making the most out of your visit and get the pork or beef ribs ($13.95+), marinated in salt, pepper, garlic and Worcestershire sauce.

For those of you who don’t want to be full for a week, go with the BBQ pork sandwich ($5.50). Sides are also important (obviously). You’ll do well with items like cinnamon bourbon apples, hush puppies or macaroni and cheese ($1.69+). Wash it all down with one of the domestic or imported beers on the menu and you’ll be happy for the long ride back to DC.
