What to Expect at DC VegFest Tomorrow
[Amanda Jane Cooney] 09 23 2011On my way to the DC VegFest preview at Sticky Fingers Bakery. I overheard two twenty-something hipsters talking about what they’re going to order once they get to Five Guys. Beef and cheese–two things that won’t be making appearances at the vegan/vegetarian event.

Damn those hipsters. Now all I can think about are animal products.
Thankfully, Sticky Fingers’ grilled cheese sandwiches are so golden brown and deceptively delicious, I had to ask–is there cow in this?
That’s a negative.
Made with gooey, melted vegan Daiya cheese and Earth Balance vegan butter substitute, it’s arguably better than the real thing.
Sticky Fingers also serves sweet, silky, satisfying vegan baked goods like chocolate cake brownies, sweet oatmeal cookies and raspberry chocolate cake.
Last year, DC VegFest attracted upwards of 6,000 visitors. There will be 75 exhibitors, with several vendors passing out free food samples.
What is on the menu? Tofurkey, vegan sausage and tempeh bacon! Maybe this Compassion for Killing stuff will get to me…
DC VegFest kicks off tomorrow at 11 am. Be one of the first 500 people to show up and receive a commemorative gift bag filled with sweets, samples and even vegan lip products. You can text “DCVF” to #55678 to receive live updates from the festival.
Don’t miss the Sticky Fingers booth. They’ll be exhibiting their Food Network “Cupcake Wars”-winning cupcakes, chocolate mousse cake, peanut butter pie, cheesecake, and amazingly, vegan stromboli!
I’ll still get the occasional Five Guys burger, but you’ll find me at tomorrow’s DC VegFest.

I’m a huge fan of grilled cheese, especially at Sticky Fingers. Love the tomato soup that comes with it. Yum!
