I am the Hitler of Half Shells.  The Bloody Mary of Mollusks.  The Caligula of–well, you get the idea.  I’ve been to every oyster happy hour in town, leaving discarded shells in my wake and the smell of mignonette in my hair.

With so many choices, where do you begin?  Well, each raw bar has a decidedly different vibe and menu, so here’s a breakdown on where, how and why to get oyster happy.

For Northern Elitists
Hank’s Oyster Bar has one of the best oyster deals in town, where oysters just $1 each, and you’ll usually find two types from New England or Canada, and one local.

Anyone who’s ever stepped foot into a McDonald’s knows that the fries under the Golden Arches are quite tasty.  However, Washington has a few places which will make you wish they offered a super-size serving of these fried-to-perfection potatoes.

First, an ode to the inventors of the French fry–the Belgians.  Brasserie Beck serves Belgian frites ($7-9), thinly cut potatoes fried golden brown with three mayonnaise-based dipping sauces: aioli, curry, and tomato.  1101 K Street NW, Washington, DC. 202.408.1717.

If you’re looking for grab-and-go french fries, Good Stuff Eatery has you covered.  My personal favorite is Spike’s Village Fries ($2.49-$3.79) sprinkled in fresh thyme, rosemary and sea salt. The aroma from these fries is amazing.

Not big on spices?
