Old Ebbitt Grill’s Oyster Riot XVI Nov. 19-20th

September 3, 2010

Back for the sixteenth consecutive year, the Oyster Riot is one of the greatest parties of the year in Washington.  Always held the Friday and Saturday before Thanksgiving, the Oyster Riot is D.C.’s preeminent food and wine event.

Each night, nearly one-thousand people devour tens of thousands of oysters while enjoying the gold medal winners of the International Wines for Oysters Competition and grooving to our blues band, Mudcat.  In short, this ain’t no cocktail party.  It’s a Riot.

Due to the overwhelming demand for tickets and from the feedback we have received over the years, we are pleased to announce the debut of the Saturday Matinee Oyster Riot.  The matinee will take place from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2010.

Tickets will be $100 and a portion for the proceeds will go to benefit the Oyster Recovery Partnership, Chesapeake Appreciation Inc. Since it is a matinee performance, we will turn the volume down with a jazz trio so those who want to slurp and taste without the usual cacophony of the Riot can do so.

We will only be selling a limited amount of tickets to the matinee as the attendance will be about half of that of the evening Riots.  Other than that, it’s the same old Riot.  Great oysters, great wine, great time!

Tickets go on sale September 7, 2010 at 7:30 a.m. As there are no phone sales this year, please purchase tickets online or at the Old Ebbitt Grill.

Friday, November 19, 2010 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. $135
Saturday, November 20, 2010 12 to 3 p.m. $100
Saturday, November 20, 2010 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. $135

Drink Lemonade, Help Childhood Cancer Aug. 20th

August 10, 2010

Ten years ago, four-year-old Alexandra “Alex” Scott was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a form of cancer that often leaves its young victims unable to walk.

Little Alex defied the odds and lived a short yet constructive life.  She started  a lemonade stand to help doctors find new treatments and ultimately a cure for all childhood cancers, including her own.

In those four years, Alex’s lemonade stand raised more than $1 million. Her parents, Jay and Liz Scott, have continued Alex’s legacy of hope after cancer ultimately took their daughter’s life at the age of eight in 2004.

What started as the vision of one little girl has been embraced by a nation of volunteers.   Today, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation has generated more than $25 million nationwide for children’s cancer research.

Now, Daily Grill has joined the effort, hoping to raise $10,000 on National Lemonade Day, Friday, August 20, 2010.  Daily Grill restaurants nationwide will donate all of its proceeds from lemonade sales to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

Daily Grill’s fresh-squeezed, hand-shaken lemonade has been one of the restaurants’ signature items since 1988.  So enjoy a tall, refreshing glass (or two!) of lemonade at your nearest Daily Grill location, knowing that you can make a difference in the lives of those suffering from childhood cancer.
