Ghana Cafe is known for its authentic West African fare, and the popular Ghanaian staple of kenkey ($15.95, pictured right) is a fresh, house-made dumpling of fermented cornmeal, which tastes like grits and sourdough at the same time.

It’s served with a small amount of curry or stew (including the goat stew here) which is a rich, spicy afterthought.

The Vices That Made Virginia is an unabashed celebration of the finest epicurean and otherwise enticing diversions that define the Old Dominion.  On Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 4-8 pm, experience an unforgettable folly of regional foods, wines, bourbon, beer and bluegrass.

The evening’s spread will feature foods from a lineup of talented local chefs preparing intensely regional, often historic dishes against a backdrop of oysters by the bushel, regional wine and beer makers, distillers, local farmers, hand-rolled cigars and lively music.

From whole roasted hogs to an extravagant old-timey banquet of everything from sweet blue crab to cornbread and cobblers, The Vices That Made Virginia promises a sensory experience and rollicking good time that sways on into the night.

Tickets are $125 per person and all proceeds benefit both Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food & Agriculture and Woodlawn, a National Trust Historic Site.  Tickets are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
