One of Washington’s largest annual food and music festivals, the The Safeway Barbecue Battle returns June 25-26, 2011 to celebrate barbecue, music & fun!

The Safeway Barbecue Battle hosts scores of the best barbecue competition teams from across the nation. Competitors cook-off all weekend for over $40,000 in cash and prizes and coveted bragging rights in the National Barbecue Championship.

The Safeway Barbecue Battle is also the largest annual fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs in Washington and has raised over 1.2 million dollars.

The ever-popular Safeway Sampling Pavilion features a line-up of free food samples and a roster of celebrity chefs and cooking demonstrations on multiple stages. Top barbecue restaurants and caterers from across the country offer every kind of mouth-watering barbecue, and attendees can vote for their favorite cue in the People’s Choice contest.

Exciting interactive exhibits add pizzazz and fun for all with sports entertainment, children’s activities, prizes and more to round out the family fun. Headlining performers include Washington’s own, unequaled Go-Go music star Chuck Brown, Cowboy Mouth from New Orleans, local rock song masters Honor By August, Mambo Sauce, Junkyard Band and many more exciting performers on three stages throughout the event site.

This year, the Perdue Sizzlin’ Chicken Contest adds to the roster of high-stakes contests, with Jim Perdue appearing and personally presenting the winner’s trophy on Saturday evening at the event.

Admission is $12 for adults; $5 for kids 6-12; and children under 6 enter free. Admission includes plenty of free food samples and entertainment.
